Patna, October 6: Popular folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur has responded to speculation that she may contest in the upcoming Bihar Assembly Election 2025.
While she has not confirmed her entry into politics, Maithili hinted at her emotional connection with her native constituency in Darbhanga, saying she would “like to stand from her village” if she ever contests.
Maithili Thakur Meets BJP Leaders, Fuels Speculation
The rumours gained traction after Maithili Thakur met senior BJP leaders, including BJP election in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai.
Photos from the meeting went viral on social media, leading to widespread speculation that she may contest the Bihar Assembly Election on a BJP ticket.
Vinod Tawde shared the photos on X (formerly Twitter) and said that Maithili, whose family left Bihar in 1995 during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure, was eager to return after seeing the state’s recent progress.
“I recently visited Bihar and had the opportunity to meet Nityanand Rai and Vinod Tawde. We had a discussion about Bihar’s future. No official announcement has been made at this time. But let’s see what happens. I would like to stand from my village constituency because I have an attachment to it,” Maithili told reporters on Monday.

From Folk Icon to Political Face?
Maithili Thakur’s remarks have sparked interest in political circles, especially amid reports that several cultural and social figures may enter politics ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls.
When asked about her political preference, she remained non-committal:
“I don’t want to comment on this right now… I am standing strong to contribute whatever possible towards the country’s development.”
While there is no formal confirmation about her political debut, Maithili’s statements have fueled discussions about her potential role in Bihar’s politics — particularly in Darbhanga and Mithilanchal regions, where she enjoys immense popularity.
