Ahmedabad announced as host of 2030 Commonwealth Games

New Delhi: It’s official! Ahmedabad in Gujarat has been announced as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The confirmation came during the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly held in Glasgow.Delegates from 74 Commonwealth member nations and territories ratified India’s bid, paving the way for the mega sporting event to return to the country after two decades. India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010.The 2030 edition will also mark the centenary of the Commonwealth Games, first held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930.The event is expected to feature 15 to 17 sports, including core disciplines such as athletics, swimming, table tennis, gymnastics, netball and boxing, along with their para-sport counterparts.Hosting the 2030 Games is seen as a major milestone in India’s long-term ambition to bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.
