India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will lead the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance in 2026. He assumes the Chair in Stockholm on December 3. Kumar will preside over all council meetings for the inter-governmental organization. International IDEA works to strengthen democratic institutions globally. India is a founding member and actively contributes to its initiatives.
