It’s Temba Bavuma’s turn to slot a significant entry into the history books. For too long now Bavuma has had to carry many weights that he did not volunteer to. As the first black South African batsman to score a Test hundred and the first to captain South Africa, his time in cricket has not been about runs alone. For Bavuma to emerge from the township of Langa, breaking out of the cycle of poverty that few from his streets manage, was significant in itself. But, he has then led his team to the World Test Championship title and now stands on the verge of another major landmark.
