During the winter session of Parliament, Uttarakhand Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt demanded a posthumous Bharat Ratna for Gaura Devi, the leader of the Chipko movement. He recalled her role in saving the Raini’s forest and making environmental protection a national issue 51 years ago.
