Odisha: Two minor girls drown in Bhadrak village pond

The incident took place in Arandua Malik Sahi under Basudevpur block early in the morning. The deceased have been identified as 11-year-old Tapadeepa Barik, daughter of Satyabrata Barik, and Annapurna Barik, daughter of Bijay Barik. Both were residents of the same village and close friends.Friends had gone to play near the water bodyAs per reports, Tapadeepa and Annapurna had gone to a nearby pond in the morning along with four to five other friends to play. During the time, one of the girls accidentally slipped and fell into the pond. In an attempt to rescue her friend, the other girl also entered the water and drowned.The children who were present at the spot immediately alerted villagers and informed the family members. By the time locals reached the pond, one of the girls was found floating and was rescued and rushed to Basudevpur hospital.As the other girl was missing, the local fire services team was informed. Fire personnel later recovered her from the pond and took her to the hospital.
