Parliament passes excise bill; states to get share of higher cigarette duty

Parliament passed the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025. FM Nirmala Sitharaman said the higher excise duty on cigarettes will be shared with states and the bill won’t harm tobacco farmers, aiming to align with WHO tax benchmarks.
