From Egypt, Trump Sends Warm Message to ‘Very Good Friend’ Modi

Gaza Peace Summit Egypt

Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt): Even in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the Gaza Peace Summit, US President Donald Trump took a moment to shower praises on his “very good friend” from India.

Speaking at the global summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, following a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, Trump said,

“India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top, and he has done a fantastic job.”

Interestingly, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was standing in the background as Trump expressed hope that India and Pakistan “are going to live very nicely together.”

 PM Modi Skips Gaza Summit

Though invited, PM Modi skipped the event and deputed MoS for Foreign Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh to represent India. Trump’s mention of Modi despite his absence underscores the ongoing warmth between the two leaders.

Trump–Modi Friendship Continues

The bond between Trump and Modi has stood strong through diplomatic ups and downs — from trade disputes to social media camaraderie.

Recently, US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor presented Modi with a signed photo from Trump, featuring a handwritten message:

“Mr Prime Minister, you are great.”

Both leaders have exchanged greetings and phone calls over the Gaza peace plan and Modi’s birthday.

Trump’s India–Pakistan Claim

Trump also reiterated his claim that he “stopped” a possible nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.

Following the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

After four days of clashes, both nations agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.

“Between India and Pakistan, I said, if you guys want to fight a war with nuclear weapons, I’ll put 100–200% tariffs on you both,” Trump said aboard Air Force One.
“Within 24 hours, that thing was settled.”

Trump’s words have once again drawn global attention to his admiration for Modi and his role in South Asian diplomacy.

As the former US President eyes another White House run, his warm message to PM Modi could shape future India–US relations and strengthen New Delhi’s global position.
