For the past several weeks, social media platforms have seen a cacophony of claims about a so-called 'Guinness World of Kissing 2025 event,' where many users are posting videos and posts that seem to suggest that such an event is being celebrated for the first time this year. But are these true-seeming claims real? Or are they another viral hype?
The Sources of Buzz
The idea of the longest kiss record is not new. From the earliest days of humans to the present couples around the world, they all have wanted to record their names in the Guinness World Records by keeping their lips attached for some time. There is, however, one outstanding record for the longest kiss, attained by a Thai couple, Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat, who in 2013 remained joined by their lips for a dazzling 58 hours, 35 minutes. In addition to diamonds worth 100,000 Thai Baht, the winners received a grand cash prize.
What Happened to the Record?
Beneath the long-distance kiss, there hid rosy honey, but behind them, the health hazards were very huge. Major ones included sleep deprivation-related psychoses. In some cases, contestants needed attention because they were extremely fatigued; for example, in 1999, Israeli record-holders Karmit Tzubera and Dror Orpaz were hospitalized after they barely entered consciousness after more than 30 hours of kissing.
Because of such potential dangers, the Guinness World Records organization deactivated its longest kiss category in 2013, claiming that such an event had transformed into a dangerous affair that was in direct opposition to new policies.
The Present Status
With all that in mind, the recent exaggerated speculation about the "Guinness World of Kissing 2025" stands groundless in truth. There is no news from Guinness World Records regarding any resumption or institution of a new kissing-related category this year. The viral posts seem to have been created either through misinformation or maybe in a playful trend of some social media without any official source support.
Keep Updated and Safe Participate
Setting or attending a world record would excite almost everyone; it is, however, worth noting that there are sources that offer correct information against checking the authenticity of such records before taking part in or forwarding them. For those who wish to participate in the actual record-breaking works, you should check out events that are more safety- and well-being-conscious.
