After reports were circulated in the media that India would withdraw from the 2025 Asian Cup upon the election of Mohsin Naqvi as the President of the Asian Cricket Council, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly rejected all such statements as completely baseless.

Naqvi took over as President of the ACC on 3 April 2025 after Shammi Silva from Sri Lanka resigned. Naqvi has been trying to keep the spirit in Asian cricket since he started as chairman of the PCB in February 2024.

The Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted in India. Even with the change of leadership at the ACC, the BCCI has continued to maintain its long-standing commitment to be part of the event. The BCCI has labelled the reports of withdrawal as simply baseless and confirmed their willingness to be involved in ACC events.

Talks about the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be hosted by Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025, have been ongoing. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has insisted that there will be no hybrid model for the trophy, and it will be the responsibility of the ICC to bring India to Pakistan. Since 2008, India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series against each other due to political disagreements. But the two nations remain in attendance and even compete in ICC and ACC multi-national tournaments despite political tensions. The last message released by the BCCI displays a willingness to keep the bond alive so that cricketing links are thriving amid political times.
