Is drinking ice-cold water bad for your health? Pros and Cons of ice water

Summers are approaching and the season for cold beverages is here, with March serving record-breaking heat, it looks like the upcoming weather is going to be hotter than ever before.

In summers staying hydrated is the top of the goal, and if it is ice-cold water, then nothing can beat it after a long day in the sun, but like everything else, there are pros and cons to drinking ice water. 


 

Pros:

Prevention from overheating: cold water can give a lot of benefits in maintaining body temperature in hot weather, especially if working under the direct sun. 

 

Weight loss: cold water can promote weight loss, but generate more heat to compensate for the cold temperature, but research proves that the difference is very minute. 

 

Dehydration: Coldwater and other drinks are more tempting and incite more throat in the individual, therefore it can cure dehydration in people. 

 

Detoxify:  Ice-cold water has more potential to detoxify fats and is better than room temperature water. 


 

Cons:

Catching a cold: Starting from the most common health issue for drinking cold water.  drinking cold water can lead to cold, due to compromised immunity. 

 

Digestive problem: The digestive system needs heat for proper functioning and processing, so when a low-temperature item is consumed, it can hinder the digestive process and functioning. 

 

Sinus related issues:  Cold water can trigger sinus problems, 

 

Brain freeze: Drinking ice cold water can create an immediate headache and shocking sensation in the server. This sensation and pain last for a few hours and does not have any long-lasting expectation on the brain or nerves but in a short-term paralyzing effect. 

 

Slows down heartbeats: Ice-cold water decreases heart rate and stimulates the vagus nerve, the nerve responsible for involuntary functioning. This involuntarily and immediate function can create long-term medical issues.
