A scary situation was created in mid-air on the 21st of May 2025 for an IndiGo flight which was flying from Delhi to Srinagar. When 6E 2142, with 227 passengers on board, was nearing Srinagar, a sudden hailstorm hit it. Severe turbulence caused by the storm battered the aircraft and damaged the front part of the plane, called the nose cone or the radome.

Passengers recall the tormenting experience. Many were praying, others were screaming, and most were thinking the plane was going down. It included the Trinamool Congress MPs; one of them, Sagarika Ghose, termed the incident a "near-death experience".

The pilot, despite the damage, maintained full composure and carried out emergency procedures. under emergency landing was declared, and the aircraft landed safely at Srinagar at 6.30pm. All passengers and crew were safe.

After landing, IndiGo ground staff took good care of the passengers, keeping them comfortable. According to the airline, the aircraft would undergo intensive checks and all necessary maintenance before being put back in the air.

The hailstorm was part of a series of sudden weather changes that had hit Delhi-NCR, winds reaching up to 79 km/hr, coupled with heavy rains that threw everything into a state of disruption. The storm resulted in several flights getting delayed or even diverted.

This incident showcased the difficulties that pilots face during unexpected Weather and the importance of their training and sense of quick decision-making. Passengers gave praise to the pilot and the crew for their courage and professionalism exhibited during the crisis.
