Life is moving fast, and many people are not getting enough sleep. A recent ResMed survey found that people around the world miss almost three nights of good sleep every week.
In India, matters are quite concerning. A survey by LocalCircles reports that 59% of Indians get less than six hours of uninterrupted sleep every day. Research indicates that 49% of Indians struggle with sleep onset at least three times a week.
Work-related stress is a major culprit. Startup founders and business leaders are said to suffer more; they have reported sleep issues due to the work hours and high-pressure decisions. In addition, it was stated that 71% of working populations across the world have taken sick leave due to poor sleep at least once.
Use of technology before sleep hours is yet another cowardly attack. It was reported that screens in bed almost doubles the risk of insomnia by 60%.
Health-wise, insufficient sleep results in fatigue, issues in memory, and increased susceptibility to diseases like diabetes and heart problems.
To enhance sleep:
Stick to a regular sleep schedule.
Avoid any screens before bed.
Practice stress management through relaxation techniques.
Ensure a good sleep environment.
By acknowledging the value of sleep and taking steps in that direction, one can improve one's health and well-being.
