A leading gastroenterologist from the U.S. recently discussed three common foods one must avoid to protect the liver, especially from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

1. Fructose and Sugary Drinks

Fructose in sugary drinks and fruit juice is the major villain affecting the fatty liver. Fructose turns into fat within the liver. Recent studies have found that people who consume large quantities of sugary drinks can suffer liver inflammation and fat buildup. Instead, drink water or herbal teas. 

2. Seed Oils That Are High in Omega-6

Seed oils such as soybean, corn, and sunflower carry good amounts of omega-6 fatty acids. Excessive amounts of omega-6 induce inflammation in the liver. Experts have suggested replacing those oils with olive oil or avocado oil.

3. Processed Snacks and Packaged Foods

Chips, cookies, and other packaged foods are often loaded with fructose and seed oils. Not only do such processed snacks negatively affect liver functioning, but they could also cause obesity and other health-related problems.
