World's richest man, tech giant, and space enthusiast Elon Musk has agreed to buy Twitter for $44 billion.
"Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated," Musk said in a statement released by Twitter."I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots and authenticating all humans."
By “free speech”, I simply mean that which matches the law. I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. If people want less free speech, they will ask the government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people." tweeted Musk as an objective behind purchasing Twitter.
Musk also commented on suggesting a name change for former US president Trumps' microblogging site, similar to Twitter.
Elon musk has made several tweets since the deal, showing his comic side with tweets about purchasing Coca-Cola and McDonald's next.
The deal is fixed on Elon paying $54.20 per share to the shareholders, evaluating to 38% premium on Twitter's closing stock price on April 1. Elon fixed on the privatization of Twitter after the board members denied his appeal to join the board.
